These wearable works of art were just some of the remarkable creations in the Opotiki Fibre and Fleece fashion show over the weekend.

Surreal Seahorse (made by Dulcie Barton), Florabunda (Elaine McGregor) and Opehia (Georgina Mason) were among the almost 80 designer entries in the annual awards at the De Luxe Theatre.

There was a full house in the theatre for the awards night on Saturday, with many others attending the festival on the preceding night as well, to catch a glimpse of the entries.

There were eight categories in the awards. The first place winners were Sharleen Greer of Warkworth (in the wool/knit/crochet category), Esther Nischke of Whiritoa (loom woven garment),  Raewyn Penrose of Te Aroha (felting), Anna Gedson of Opotiki (masks), Hannah Pehi of Opotiki (flax/harakeke), Dale Smith of Gisborne (silk), Dulcie Barton of Waharoa (wearable art) and Georgina Mason of Edgecumbe (costumes around the world).

Some of the items were up for sale at the exhibition the next day.
