Over 600 groups doing good in neighbourhoods across New Zealand have now been selected to be part of Z Energy’s ‘Good in the Hood’ programme, and customers are being invited to vote for their favourite group from 1 – 31 March at their local Z.

Through the Good in the Hood programme, Z will contribute over $1 million to neighbourhood groups and projects that matter the most to its customers.

Every Z service station in New Zealand will be supporting four neigbourhood groups. These groups will receive a share of $4,000 per service station based on the voting of Z customers. A further $1,000 per service station has been also set aside for Z’s local retailers to support other neighbourhood projects throughout the year.

The four groups Z Kawerau has chosen to support this year are Kawerau Assembly of God KMA Food Bank, Kawerau Community Patrol, Bay Trust Rescue Helicopter and St John Kawerau.

The criteria that the groups needed to fulfill to apply for ‘Good in the Hood’ included:

• being active in the local neighbourhood around a specific Z station
• being focused around helping people who need it

Local Z Retailer, Lynette & Dave Gillies said that it was difficult to narrow down the applications received for Z Kawerau to just four organisations.

“We received a huge number of applications for Z Kawerau, with every single one of these organisations doing great things in [insert area]. We struggled to narrow it down to just four, but we believe the groups we’ve chosen to support this year will continue to make a real difference in the lives of people who need help,” said Lynette & Dave

Over the month of March, every customer making a purchase at Z Kawerau (excluding cigarette only purchases) will be given an orange token and invited to physically vote for the organisation they wish to support.

How much funding each of the groups receives will ultimately be determined by the number of customer votes they receive.

“We think it’s only right that the people of Kawerau area get to have a say on what matters most to them in their neighbourhood.”
Each neighbourhood group will also be in line for an extra $500 if they’re one of the ten groups nationwide who receive the most votes in Z’s online Token Hunt. During the month of March customers will be able to hunt for tokens at and use them to vote for the group they want to support, and even win some prizes themselves.

“So pop into your local Z in March and vote for the neighbourhood group that means the most to you.

“Z is for every neighbourhood we operate in, and in this case, Z is for Kawerau,” says Lynette & Dave.
