Those in the Kawerau area have been shaken by a trio of shallow quakes.

A 3.3 magnitude tremor has struck at quarter to eight last night (18th June 2012), centred 10 kilometres north of the town, five kilometres underground.

This has been followed by 2.4 and 2.9 quakes, centred two kilometres underground, and within five kilometres of Kawerau.

They’ve taken place at ten to nine and twenty past nine, respectively.

The shakes have been felt around the mill-town and Onepu.
