Summer School Holiday Programmes 2013

Well it’s that time of the year, when school is finishing and we are looking for holiday programmes for our kids to do, there are a few holiday programmes this summer holidays to suit every budget and age.

First off, we have The Summer Beach Read at The Kawerau District Library .

The Kawerau District Library is looking for keen readers to dive into this summer’s fun activities, challenges and competitions. To enter the Summer Beach reading challenge, you need to go to the Library with a caregiver, where you can pick up a challenge handbook and starter pack. Your goal is to complete a reading log and 20 reading based challenges, with rewards for every five challenge’s completed. Plus you can join in on the fun activity sessions and theme competitions.

Enrolment’s begin Monday 2 December. There are two age ranges (5-9 years & 10 plus) for the challenge packs. There’s also a simple reading programme for book teens. Secondly, we have the Kawerau Bluelight’s Break-Away Kayaking Programme.

The Kawerau Bluelight will be holding a summer fun kayak and water safety programme over three weeks commencing on Thursday the 9th of January. Week one will consist of testing to see where you’re at in terms of kayaking and water safety, and will also test those skills on the Tarawera River.

Week two will consist of river trips into the Tarawera Forest via the Tarawera River, an out of town river trip, which will include white water grade 2+ rapids and also other trips on the upper Tarawera River.

Week three will involve participants assisting others in getting into kayaking and teaching them some new skills on the river, as well as swimming and rapid rafting.

Most of the sessions will be based at the Waterhouse Street Reserve slalom site.

This programme is aimed at local kids aged 12-17 years old.

Thirdly, we have the Tui Glen Farm’s Summer Kid’s Camp.

Tui Glen Farm will be holding 4 summer camps throughout the holiday period.

  • Camp B: 5th – 11th January 2014
  • Camp C: 12th – 18th January 2014
  • Camp D: 19th – 25th January 2014
