This year’s festive celebrations at Kawerau Christmas in the Park will take place on Saturday 13th December at Prideaux Park; entry is totally free for this event which offers a variety of top class live entertainment throughout the day, something for all the whanau.

The day will start with the New World Kawerau Santa Parade, 11am, leaving from behind the Ron Hardie Rec Centre for two laps around the township.  Entries are coming in thick and fast already.

From 1.00pm The Radio 1XX Community Christmas Concert will take to the stage at Prideaux Park, Plunket Street and will demonstrate the finest Eastern Bay of Plenty talent.

Kawerau District Councils, Lee Barton said “We have a range of dance acts, soloist, duos and bands which will all perform on the Kawerau stage.  This show has proven to be an amazing platform for up and coming talent in our region.  We also have a special treat with the runners up in the 2014 Pasifica Beats nationals, ‘Open Arms’, from Rotorua Boys High headlining the afternoon show ”

Creating Moments of Magic (CMM), under Monty Morrison’s show directorship has once again managed to bring together an incredible array of talent for this year’s show.

“The evening show will see a fantastic line up of with big name artists all booked for this year’s evening show; which will culminate in a massive fireworks display.” Lee Barton concluded.

The Howie Morrison (Jnr.) Trio and Showband will be the headlining act in 2014.  The ‘Trio’ (consisting of Howard Morrison Jnr., Chris Powley and Russell Harrison) will be supported with their own stunning Showband and will undoubtedly create a truly memorable finale in Kawerau.

Few introductions need to be written for this Trio, as their eclectic range of material and charismatic stage presence will be incredible and this could well prove to be the last ever opportunity to see the Trio live in Kawerau.

Additional featured artists will be the 2013 X Factor runner up, Whenua Patuwai, all the way from Christchurch (originally Gisborne).  Whenua rose to fame after his soul lifting rendition of ‘A Change is Gonna Come’ in the early auditions of the TV hit show, which eventually saw his weekly performances earn the respect and votes of thousands of adoring fans and the accolade as the eventual runner up.

Returning after a stunning performance in 2012 will be Auckland’s Diva and leading lady of song Sharon Emirali. We can expect Sharon to lift the festive comer’s spirits with her crowd pumping power vocals, producing a range of latest hits and classics. Sharon is no stranger to big crowds having performed previously at Coca Cola Christmas in the Park and Lakeside in Rotorua on numerous occasions.

Hailing from the sunshine capital, Whakatane based group Yesiyah have been elevated to the evening show line up in 2014 – after an excellent performance last year in the afternoons Radio 1XX Community Christmas Concert.

Yesiyah are cementing themselves in the national reggae circuit as one of the nation’s growing in popularity bands of the Aotearoa roots reggae scene, especially after recent live performances on Good Morning national TV.

Also gracing the stage as supporting artists will be soprano Elisha Hulton (NZ Aria finalist and winner of the 2014 Maori Song Contest), Emma Cronshaw-Hunt from Rotorua and Tuakoi Ohia will round up this fantastic line-up.

Kai stalls, children’s rides and sideshows will be active throughout the festive day in Kawerau and the organisers would also like to politely remind members of the public attending; Kawerau Christmas in the Park is a family focussed event with no drugs, alcohol or gang regalia permitted.
