The Eastern Bay of Plenty branch of the NZ Motor Caravan Association are now full steam ahead with what they hope will be one of the biggest antiques and collectables road shows in the region. Taking place in Kawerau over Queens Birthday weekend the event will involve four expert valuers, antiques, collectibles, bric-a-brac sales tables and an auction all for the benefit of Hospice Eastern Bay of Plenty.

“We want to make sure that this is an event of interest to our members who will be attending the Motor home rally and the public” says one of the organisers Ray Barton. “We will be having a large number of out of town Motor homers here for the long weekend and not only are we wanting to show them what a great place Kawerau and the wider Eastern Bay of Plenty district is, we also want to get them involved to help us raise funds for our regional Hospice”.

Jacqui Davis, public relations coordinator for Hospice Eastern Bay of Plenty, says the organisation is delighted to be the beneficiary of this event. “We provide free services to approximately 250 patients with terminal illnesses and their families across the Eastern Bay of Plenty each year. Although partially funded by the District Health Board we have an annual shortfall of $350,000 in operating costs and need the support of the local community to help cover this. Events such as the Road Show are a great way for this to happen”

The names of some of the valuers will be familiar with well known locals Jacqui Otley and Wayne Marriott kindly supporting the event. Rotorua art dealer and collector John McCartney, and Lois Ions who has been involved in coin and stamp collecting for 33 years will also be on hand to provide their expertise and advice.

Ray says that there will be a small valuation fee for those bringing along items. “For those wishing to enter items into Sunday’s auction being conducted by local Auctioneer Wendy Peri the 10% commission on sales will go to Hospice. There are also a limited number of bric and brac tables which can be booked for the two days at a small cost.”

The road show will be at the Kawerau Town Hall, Islington St, Kawerau on Saturday and Sunday, June 1 and 2 from 10am to 3pm with the auction beginning at 3.30pm on Sunday. Gold coin entry.
