Kawerau is renowned for its freedom camping.

Camping Sites

  • Prideaux Park
  • Boyce Park
  • Waterhouse Street Reserve
  • Stoneham Park

Prideaux Park Site

The Prideaux Park site is the most widely used site because of it central location. It is a short stroll to town, the Information Centre and also Kawerau’s free hot pools.

The Prideaux Park site also has power access and a dump station facility. A key for the power can be picked up from the Kawerau Information Centre for a $25.00 bond, which is returned once the key is returned.

The power sites are free for the first 3 nights, and then just $10.00 per night after that.

The dump station key can also be picked up from the Kawerau Information Centre.

Firmin Field

The sealed car park at Firmin Field may be used by independent travellers and organised groups using fully self contained vehicles.

Boyce Park, Stoneham Park and Waterhouse Street Reserve

The reserves are available for use by organised groups in fully self contained motor vehicles. The Kawerau District Council will arrange to open the gates when campers arrive ad lock them again when they leave. To allow arrangements to be made, campers are requested to give the Council prior notice of the date and time of their expected arrival and to notify the Council when they leave.
