Kawerau was founded in 1954, the once bare block of land with nothing but a few trees, a river and an iconic mountain has seen a lot in 60 years from it’s early days of development. With forestry, pulp and paper as the central industrial hub of the Eastern Bay through to more recent years with a decline in some industries, Kawerau is now looking forward to a new era of growth and optamisim which will shape the next 60 years of what is one of New Zealands youngest towns.
This weekends celebration will be centered at Prideaux Park with stalls, music and guest speakers whilst other fringe activities will be taking place elsewhere around the township.
John Rowles and other music, dance and cultural performances at Prideaux Park Saturday 29 March.
